If registered participants contact the CUAD office at 701.250.3924 or 800.279.6328 ext. 3924 to cancel their registration at least seven business days prior to the session, they will receive a full refund of the registration fee. Cancellations occurring six business days or less before the session will receive a 70 percent refund of the registration fee. On Monday night during dinner, we will be taking donations for the WDAY Honor Flight program. For every $5 donated you will select an item donated by the Red River Chapter of Credit Unions. Here is a little history about the organization.
WDAY Honor Flight
Due to the overwhelming response from attendees, we have decided to do this fundraiser for the Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas' once more! The cost to attend this event is $70 per person. Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas' 6th Annual Pub Crawl Networking Event!
Our Mission: The WDAY Honor Flight project will fly as many World War II and Korean War Veterans as possible to see their memorials in Washington, DC at no cost to them.
Project History: The concept of the Honor Flight began when Earl Morse, a retired Air Force Captain and Physician’s Assistant at a Veterans Administration Clinic in Ohio, asked one of his patients if he had been to see the new World War II Memorial yet. Earl was just making small talk. He never would have guessed his patient would break down after hearing his simple question. After a few moments, the man composed himself and explained that he was just too old and would probably never get a chance to see the memorial at his age. It was at that moment Earl realized that, as a licensed pilot himself, he could help some of the patients he had been treating for the last 27 years see the memorial that was built in their honor before they died. Soon after taking that first Veteran to Washington, Earl began flying other local Veterans on weekend day-trips to see the Memorial. In just a matter of weeks, other people in different communities heard the call to honor the men and women of the Greatest Generation and Honor Flight was born.
The WDAY Honor Flight project was originally formed in 2007 with the purpose of sending our area World War II Veterans free of charge, to visit the recently completed National World War II Memorial in Washington DC.
Throughout the course of 13 months in 2007 and the spring of 2008 the WDAY Honor Flight raised over $829,000.00 and flew nearly 900 Veterans completely free of charge to Washington to see their memorial.
What should be remembered is that our men and women of the armed forces sacrificed more than any of us could ever understand. It is our duty to all of them to remember their sacrifices and give them the closure they need and deserve.
To date, the WDAY Honor Flight has flown over 1000 area Veterans on six Honor Flights. The next Honor Flight is scheduled for October, 2016. The WWII and Korean War Veterans and their guardians will fly from the Fargo Hector International Airport directly to Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C.
During their two-day overnight trip, they enjoy sight-seeing of the city including the Vietnam, Korean and WWII memorials, Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Iwo Jima, the Navy and Air Force memorials, the National Archives (private tour), the FDR memorial and, if time allows, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. After a very emotional and fulfilling two-day trip, the Veterans return to Dulles International for the flight home. Upon arrival in Fargo, the Veterans are welcomed home by family, friends, and countless well-wishers.
The WDAY Honor Flight must emphasize three very important points:
First, these trips are totally free of charge for WWII and Korean War Veterans. All of their expenses are paid through locally raised contributions. If the Veteran has a guardian traveling with them to assist, the guardian pays $750.00 which is the cost to send one person.
Second, all contributions are being taken and administered by the West Fargo American Legion which is an Internal Revenue Service 501-3-C non-profit charitable status organization so donations are tax deductible.
Third, no one involved with the WDAY Honor Flight Committee or Board of Directors is paid. Each member is a volunteer.
We are asking you to please help us make this trip of a lifetime possible for these men and women who gave so much so long ago. We look upon this as our generation’s chance to give something back to those who sacrificed body and spirit in the name of our country.

Josh founded Think Café to help leaders have more impact in the lives of those they serve.
Josh is the Founder and Chief Ideator for Think Café, a consulting company committed to solutions for the new workplace. He has spoken and worked with organizations from Hawaii to New York and 25 states in between. Josh is a sought after public speaker and trainer, specializing in sales and service, business development and leadership topics for the finance and communication industries. Josh is also a Senior Consultant for FI-Strategies, LLC –
one of the nation’s premier finance industry consulting companies.
In the past, Josh partnered with an Emmy winning TV show to develop a financial literacy program for use by schools across the country. In 2013, he worked alongside international credit unions to study best practices in Gen Y engagement in partnership with the WOCCU. In 2014, Josh was recognized as the CUNA Business Development Professional of the Year for the credit union industry. In 2015, Josh was recognized as a top 10 speaker for the 2015 World Credit Union Conference.
He serves as a CUNA FUSE Institute faculty member, is a graduate of Leadership Spokane and certified as a Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE). He lives with his beautiful wife and children in Spokane Washington.
Holly Fearing has been a communications and marketing professional for the past dozen years, a decade of which in the credit union movement. Holly works for Filene Research Institute, a non-profit independent think tank focused on credit unions and consumer finance. There, she manages Filene’s social media strategies and produces their weekly blog and podcast. Holly also manages Filene’s social media advisory programs for credit unions and has the pleasure of traveling the US and Canada to help credit unions tell their stories more effectively and creatively through the power of social media.
Working with cooperatives is truly her passion. Holly is the Board President of the Willy Street Grocery Co-op, one of the largest natural food cooperatives in the U.S., and is a founding organizer of the Dane Cooperative Alliance, an organization in the Madison, Wisc. area serving as a collective resource for all sectors of cooperative business. She also writes for several publications and helps organize events with the mission of increasing awareness of the cooperative model.
Prior to working with Filene, Holly worked for 8 years at CUNA Mutual Group as a Digital Media Strategist and held positions in corporate communications, public relations and editorial. Holly became a Credit Union Development Educator (DE) in 2011 and was named a Trailblazer 40 Below by the Credit Union Times in 2013. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Teresa Lewis is a motivational speaker, author and morning radio co-host on Life 97.9. She recently published her first book, Life by Design. Teresa lives in Horace, ND, with her husband and their 2 teenage daughters.
Prior to launching her own business in 2007, she worked in the corporate world for 20 years, primarily in human resources. Teresa's mission: Make a positive and profound impact on the world!

Jon Waldman, Partner and Senior Information Security Consultant for Secure Banking Solutions, LLC, is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) who received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems with a minor in Business Administration from Dakota State University and his Master of Science in Information Assurance with an emphasis in Banking and Finance Security from Dakota State University. Jon is also a co-founder of SBS, and over the last ten years, has helped hundreds community banks across the country create and implement comprehensive, valuable, and manageable Information Security Programs. He also conducts webinars and certification programs, such as Certified Community Banking Vendor Manager, for the SBS Institute.
"Gert” Garman is the owner of Broad Perspective, LLC. Previously, she was the Director of the Collaborative Design Center at Valencia College. Prior to that, she was a Creativity and Innovation Catalyst for Disney Destinations, where she facilitated brainstorming sessions and trained fellow Cast Members in Disney’s Innovation Toy Box for the Disney Parks and Resorts worldwide. Gert has a long history of creating immersive experiences and breakthrough thinking results through her work with Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and as an Assistant Athletics Director for the University of Central Florida Knights. She is certified as a facilitator in the Creative Problem Solving (CPS), Think X, Four Sight and Five Faces of Genius processes.
