The CU Foundation

The Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas (CUFD) is a unique shared investment program that strengthens the credit union movement throughout the Dakotas, across the US, and worldwide. You choose to help all credit unions make a difference.

Purpose: To build community awareness of Dakota credit unions through support of children’s charities; community and social impact organizations or projects; financial education and financial literacy programs through the credit union chapter system; and to provide higher education scholarships throughout our service region in the Dakotas.

Mission: To establish a charitable Credit Union Foundation so that we can sustain long lasting contributions with a more significant impact on our Dakota credit unions and their communities they serve.

For the first time ever, the Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas (CUFD) awarded twenty $500 Dakotas’ Credit Union Financial Scholarships. We're proud to announce the following North Dakota and South Dakota winning recipients.


The recipients for North Dakota are:

A panel of five judges selected the students based upon volunteer experience, school activity involvement and an essay written by the students: “How has your credit union affect both you and your family?”


The students plan to use the individual $500 scholarships to pursue or continue their degrees in higher education. The scholarship is designed for both high school seniors or current college students who are credit union members.



Dakota Credit Unions Care Campaign

The Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas will be running Dakota Credit Unions Care Campaign through the month of April in conjunction with CUNA's Youth Saving's Month. 

The Dakota Credit Unions Care Campaign will feature little green “CU Super Hero” icons to be displayed throughout credit unions across the two states. Upon request, the CUFD will mail to each credit union a supply of CU Super Hero cards to sell to staff, volunteers, and members. For each $1 donation, individuals can proudly display a CU Super Hero icon on the walls or windows of their credit union branches. All proceeds will go directly to the CUFD, to support their efforts in building awareness of Dakota credit unions. 

Participation and support of this fundraising campaign is easy and voluntary! Here’s how:

  • To create more awareness your credit union may want to order T-shirts for your team to wear throughout this campaign.  CUFD will provide you with the necessary artwork, and each credit union can, at their own expense, work with the T-shirt vendor of choice to order sizes and quantity needed and ensure delivery in time for the campaign kickoff date of April 1st. To learn more about this, you also can contact Katie Dressler.  
  • Please contact Katie Dressler if you would like to be mailed the little green CU Hero icons to your credit union headquarters. Each credit union will need to distribute to their departments or branches. Depending on your credit union size, the supply being mailed to you may be 150, 200, etc., with 100 being the minimum. You also will be mailed posters to use in your lobbies or you can download them here
  • Beginning April 1st, ask your members for a $1 donation to purchase a CU Hero icon to support CUFD charities and programs. Fill in the member name and hang the CU Heroes on your lobby walls or windows. 

In addition, if your credit union chooses charities to support with financial donations each month or quarter, such as blue jeans Fridays or bake sales, we humbly ask that you consider donating those funds to CUFD during the month of April. You can make a competition out of it between states, or even your own branches. Have fun with this!
