Dakota’s Crashers Part of Opening Ceremonies at GAC
by CUAD Communications

Dakotas' GAC Crashers made a grand entrance bearing our state flags during the opening ceremonies at the GAC yesterday in Washington, DC. Representing North Dakota this year was Lacey TerWee, CEO of University FCU in Grand Forks and from South Dakota, Joey Rotert, Marketing & Business Development Manager from Sioux Falls FCU in Sioux Falls and Rachel Lere, Learning and Performance Specialist from Black Hills FCU in Rapid City.

“We are very pleased that we have such great representation at the GAC this year from our up-and-coming Dakota credit union leaders,” says Jeff Olson, CUAD President/CEO. “The best way to ensure the continued success of our movement is to capture the attention, dedication, and enthusiasm of future leaders. The Crasher program does just that, and also provides a way for young credit union professionals to expand their industry network – making connections, gaining confidence and insight that can benefit them for years to come.”

*On a side note, did you know we are offering a Crasher opportunity for our 2019 Summit in Fargo?

Following the opening processing, Jim Nussle took the stage and his opening remarks were streamed LIVE on Facebook. He took this opportunity to announce the very special guest that will be appearing at the GAC today. We will have more in tomorrow’s Memo, but thank you to all who submitted their answer to our “Guess the Special GAC Guest” contest in Jeff Olson’s President’s Perspective yesterday.

“The key to the credit union difference is our cooperative superpowers,” Nussle told a record-breaking number of attendees during his address, which was streamed live over Facebook. Some of his highlights included:

  • Credit unions provided $16 billion in total financial benefits to members and non-members.
  • Credit unions added nearly 5 million members
  • Credit union growth was 5X higher than U.S. population growth.

Nussle also highlighted the efforts from credit unions during the federal government shutdown, before introducing John Kerry, former Secretary of State to the crowd of approximately 5,300 - the largest for the GAC ever, according to CUNA!
