GAC Ends on a High Note
by CUAD Communications

Fox News political commentator and former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino (photo above) shared her experiences as a political insider on Wednesday as the closing keynote speaker at the GAC. Perino hosts the “The Daily Briefing" on Fox News and is also a regular co-host on the talk show "The Five."

Perino was the second woman to serve as White House press secretary. She served under the George W. Bush administration in 2007. In 2009, President Barack Obama nominated her to serve on the Broadcasting Board of Governors, an agency overseeing government-sponsored international broadcasting. She has also worked as a Washington staff assistant for several members of Congress and was a spokesperson for the Department of Justice, as well as director of communications for the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Ms. Perino provided an excellent speech and was a great way to “wrap up” the 2019 GAC.

Also making appearances on the closing day were Congressman Ed Perlmutter (D-CO), Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO), Congressman Patrick McHenry (R-NC), and Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA), and Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI).

A Pre-Hike-The-Hill Briefing in DC.

The GAC conference was completed by lunchtime, and then our Dakota delegation of 35 credit union advocates made their way to Capitol Hill for visits with our elected representatives. Prior to the “Hike the Hill” events, CUAD’s President/CEO Jeff Olson and Chief Advocacy Officer Jay Kruse held a briefing to lay out the day’s overall agenda and topics that were to be discussed. Some of the items that our group was prepared to discuss included: Ways that Dakota credit unions stepped up to help consumers during the recent government shutdown; the need for common sense regulations; appraiser availability; and cyber security. Be sure to see the related story in today’s Memo for a full account of the visits to Capitol Hill!
