Shifting Gears with Lori Welder

Shifting gears toward a solid foundation.

Don’t you feel much better when you’ve helped someone in need? Imagine the impact if we all joined forces to help better the lives of others! This is what the Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas is dedicated to accomplishing in the communities we serve. On behalf of the board, I’d like to say we truly appreciate your continued support as we strive to create more positive awareness of credit unions.

Why we raise funds.

All proceeds from our fundraising efforts go to the CUFD to help credit unions make a difference through children’s charities, financial education, scholarships, and community outreach programs. As part of our philosophy of “People Helping People,” we make sure every member counts.

You can help – and have a fun experience at the same time!

Who loves trying new wines? One of our upcoming fundraisers that has me super excited is the Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas' Wine Tasting Event at this year’s Summit. Did I mention there will be food too?

It all happens April 28 from 6-8:00 pm. This special Sunday evening add-on is sure to be educational, memorable, and fun. Not only will you have an opportunity to sample 20 different fine wines and enjoy a delicious spread of pairings, you’ll have time to network and have fun with your peers. But most importantly – you will help support the good work of our Foundation and help those in our communities for years to come.

First Community Credit Union has graciously offered to host the event at their 5201 42nd St South branch in Fargo. All in the area are welcome to attend, or make plans to arrive for the Summit early so you don’t miss out! FCCU staff and Foundation board members will be available to give rides back to the hotel to ensure everyone has a safe and fun evening.

Tickets are only $75 for one or you can purchase two for $125. Be sure to select this add-on when you REGISTER for the Summit. If you already registered and don’t want to miss out, simply return to the registration page, select the event, and complete your request.

Be a hero.

Ok, I’m not talking about Enrique Iglesias wanting to be your hero! We can ALL be heroes – credit union heroes. (Good luck getting that song out of your head now.)

Last week, Jeff Olson challenged all CEOs, as well as credit union leaders, to join him in a pledge to commit $1 for every day in April to support the Dakota Credit Union Cares Campaign. This important fundraiser supports our Foundation and I hope that everyone will choose to help all credit unions make a difference. These little green “CU Hero” icons make a big impact! Don’t forget to show off your collection on social media as they begin to accumulate inside your credit union.

Grant awarded - and more available!

Don’t forget that we are offering grants for credit union chapters to be used towards financial education. I’d like to give a quick shout-out to the Credit Unions United Chapter for being awarded a grant which allowed them to be a major sponsor for Real World Camp in Minot. They also helped organize, plan, and conduct the day’s events. If you are interested in applying for a social impact grant, please contact me or download an application.

We look forward to continually growing the Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas to better serve our members while making an impact in our communities. Once again, thank you for supporting the good work of our Foundation.

Have a great week!
