Legislative Update with Jay Kruse
by Jay Kruse
Chief Advocacy Officer

Good Morning!

Are you a young credit union professional looking to become more involved in the credit union movement? In less than one month, CUNA is hosting the first of two annual CUNA Young Professional Advocacy Workshops in Washington D.C. The workshops are focused on polishing your legislative advocacy skills by sharing industry best practices and Congressional relationship building tips.

The dates for these two events are: September 9, 2019 and September 23, 2019.

CUNA's Young Professional Advocacy Training provides an all-day program specifically aimed to educate the next generation of leaders. One component of being a leader in the credit union movement is being an advocate. CUNA, league staff, and outside consultants share best practices on becoming an advocate and building relationships with members of Congress. The program is interactive and attendees practice telling their story and also practice for Capitol Hill meetings which take place on the following day. This program is helpful both to new and seasoned advocates in the credit union movement. Topics covered include best practices for in-district and Capitol Hill meetings, an overview of CUNA's political program, the role credit union professionals play in advocacy, how to effectively communicate with your members, and opportunities to network with other attendees.
