Remembering Don Couch, Former South Dakota League President

Donald Payton “Don” Couch, 79, of Hixson, TN passed away on Monday, October 7, 2019. Full military graveside services will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements will be announced by Hamilton Funeral Home - 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson TN.

Don worked for the Tennessee Credit Union League where he served as vice president, before moving to South Dakota where he became the league president for more than a decade. Floyd Rummel III, CEO of Northern Hills FCU, remembers him fondly. “Don was a dedicated credit union professional who always had the best interests of the league’s member credit unions in mind during his years of leadership,” he said. Roger Heacock, President/CEO of Black Hills FCU, also had some kind words. “Don had a passion for helping credit unions succeed and thrive. He advocated for credit unions both locally and nationally and we are grateful for his contributions,” he said. We offer our sincere condolences to Don’s family and friends at this sad time.

 

                          Condolences to August Rysavy Family

Former long-time board member at Sioux Falls FCU, August R. Rysavy, passed away on October 1, 2019. He was 86 years old. Services were held on Friday, October 4th. CUAD would like to express our most sincere condolences to his family and friends. You can view his obituary posted on the George Boom Funeral Home website here.

 

Dakota West CU Welcomes New Ag Loan Officer

Brent Fix has joined the lending team at Dakota West Credit Union in its Bowman County branch. Brent is from Ekalaka, Montana, and brings a lifetime of ranching experience to the Bowman agriculture community. In addition to working cattle, Brent’s experience includes servicing agriculture equipment and training other technicians in diagnosing and repairing ag equipment. He is a graduate of the University of Mary, where he received his dual Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Financial Services and Banking. He recently completed an internship with the Bobcat Company in Bismarck, and now looks forward to working with the farmers and ranchers of the southwest corner of North Dakota and establishing relationships throughout the ag community.

 

CUAD Closed Monday, October 14

CUAD will be closed on Monday, October 14 in observation of Columbus Day and Native American Day. Columbus Day is a national holiday which officially celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in and the discovery of the American Continent on October 12, 1492. Not all states or regions follow this observance, and instead, they celebrate other events on the day. South Dakota's official holiday on this date is Native Americans' Day.

 

Dakotaland FCU Seeking Next President/CEO

Dakotaland FCU based in Huron, South Dakota is seeking to fill the position of President/CEO upon the retirement of their current CEO following a 32 year career with Dakotaland FCU. A successful candidate must be a visionary and collaborative leader with a passion for ensuring the health and stability of the organization, and should possess a working knowledge of the operational and lending functions of a credit union with primary focus on financial analytics. Expert communication, advocacy and influencer skills are essential for this leadership position, with proven success in building relationships with community, staff and board of directors. At least 5 years of experience as an executive officer within a financial institution of $100M or greater in assets is required; with credit union experience preferred. A bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent qualifying work experience will be required. Career Opportunities at Black Hills FCU

Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) is seeking an experienced candidate to join their team as a full-time vice president of risk management and legal. The position will be based out of BHFCU’s Corporate Office in Rapid City and will be responsible for the overall administration and operation of risk management, compliance, fraud, contracts and vendor management programs, as well as serve as legal counsel for the credit union. The ideal candidate will have eight to ten years of experience in a related field with equal responsibilities. They should have knowledge of the legal field, including legal contracts, due diligence and negotiation tactics. A Juris Doctorate is preferred, but not required.

BHFCU is seeking a qualified, experienced candidate to join their team as a full-time business lender. This position will be based out of BHFCU’s West 10th Street Member Service Center in Sioux Falls. The business lender will be responsible for establishing business relationships with commercial borrowers, explaining business products and services and ensuring loan quality and deposit growth for the Credit Union. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two to three years of lending experience, preferably in commercial lending, as well as four years of college level language, math, and reasoning skills.

BHFCU is also seeking a full-time mortgage loan originator. This position will be based out of BHFCU’s Downtown Member Service Center in Rapid City. The mortgage loan originator will be responsible for seeking out, originating and processing real estate loan applications, as well as making loan decisions. Additional duties include providing financial counseling, building relationships and marketing BHFCU real estate products and more. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in direct mortgage lending, as well as four years of college level language, math and reasoning skills. They should also have a strong working knowledge of FHA, VA, SDHDA, and secondary market loan requirements.
