A Little Facebook Creeping

With so many Facebook posts vying for attention, what can a credit union do to make sure their posts are noticed? Well, one smart way to catch people’s attention, according to kissmetrics.com, is to play up to people’s emotions. In fact, one study of 1,400 ad campaigns found that those with purely emotional content performed twice as well as those with only rational content. Surprised? I’m not.

Think about the old GE – “We bring good things to life” campaign. Or how about the AT & T “Reach out and touch someone” commercials for long distance phone calls. True, the technology that all of these ads were touting is passe – but the feeling lives on. That feeling is one of connecting with another human being.

What can your credit union do to make that connection with members and potential members? A good rule of thumb: If it makes you feel something – happy, excited, nostalgic, hopeful, or amused, then chances are, it will make others feel something too. That translates into more likes, loves, and shares. Roger Ebert said it so well, “Your intellect may be confused, but your emotions will never lie to you.”
