Update from the Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas
by Lori Welder
CUFD Executive Director

Foundation board seats open – are you interested in serving?

The Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas has two open seats for board members! Nominations are being accepted through April 14th for the following regions: Western South Dakota; and Eastern South Dakota. The CUFD board meets quarterly through virtual meeting platforms or via conference calls. Most in-person meetings are held in conjunction with CUAD events such as the Annual Summit or the New Ideas Conference.

The purpose of the CUFD is to build community awareness of the Dakota credit unions through the support of children’s charities, community and social impact organizations or projects, financial education and literacy programs through the credit union chapter system, and by providing higher education scholarship throughout our service region in the Dakotas.

Last call for CUFD scholarship applications.

As a reminder, the Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas (CUFD) will be awarding twenty $500 scholarships for the third consecutive year! Ten scholarships will be awarded to North Dakota applicants and ten to South Dakota applicants who exemplify the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” through volunteering, community service, and leadership. It’s important to note, these CUFD scholarships are not just for college-bound students, but for any student pursuing further education at a technical/vocational school.

The application can be downloaded on the Foundation webpage or by following this link:

2020 Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas Scholarship Application.

Applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2020. The scholarship winners will be announced in May 2020. We encourage CUAD member credit unions to share this information on their websites and social media platforms.

Judges needed for CUFD Scholarships.

Speaking of scholarships, we would love some assistance in selecting the recipients! Volunteers are needed to be on a judging sub-committee. Judges should be in a leadership or communications role. This committee will do the preliminary sorting and selection of applications prior to the final decisions. The number of applications to be appraised will depend upon the number of final submissions. The preliminary judging will take place in April. If you would like to offer your assistance to the CUFD scholarship committee, or if you have any questions about the Foundation, be sure to contact Lori Welder, CUFD Executive Director 701-250-3968.
