A Day of Remembrance

It is hard to believe that it has been 19 years since the attacks of 9/11/2001. It is one of those moments in time where you will always remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news. Today, we honor those who perished so suddenly.

  • The terrorist attacks on 9/11 resulted in the largest loss of lives ever from a foreign attack on American soil. The attacks claimed 2,977 lives and wounded 6,000 more.
  • 343 firefighters, 23 police officers, and 37 Port Authority officers perished that day.
  • It took 3.1 million man hours to clear the rubble from the World Trade Center towers and 1.8 million tons of debris was hauled away.
  • The loss of life is the real tragedy, but the economic losses were also huge. The cost to clean up the World Trade Center complex was $750 million and the total price tag of 9/11 is an estimated $123 billion.
  • September 11 is designated as a Day of Remembrance. Let us all pause for a moment today to honor the fallen and their families.
