Good Morning!

I hope everyone is having a great week. I want to start off by wishing everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving. 2020 has definitely been a trying year to say the least, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have plenty to be thankful for as we enter into the final stretch of the year. I couldn’t be more thankful for my amazing wife and family, and for their love and support throughout the year as we have all been forced to adapt to some difficult circumstances during this ongoing pandemic. Also, I am thankful for good health, something that we can no longer take for granted as many continue to battle COVID-19.

I feel very fortunate to work in the credit union industry which puts a focus on people over profits. I wouldn’t have this opportunity if it wasn’t for the good work credit unions do every day. As a member of the Dakota Credit Union Association team as well as on behalf of the over 500,000 credit union members spread across the Dakotas, I want to thank all of our local credit unions for the long hours and extra work you have put in to help your members and local communities navigate their way through the pandemic and these uncertain times.

Credit unions are putting their mission to the test, providing member access to much needed PPP loan funding, loan modification and deferrals, payment consolidations, food pantry support, as well as making cash donations to other community support organizations. Dakota credit unions do amazing things every day to help people and their communities– in good times and in times of trouble. That is the credit union difference. However, credit unions are humble in nature, and are therefore often hesitant to promote all this good work that is getting done.

We are working to change this by helping Dakota credit unions promote the many meaningful ways they are supporting members during these turbulent times through our new Advancing Communities initiative. We are aggregating real-life credit union success stories, in the form of short (one minute or less) videos, to add dimension to our unique North and South Dakota pages on the site. The videos will feature both credit union members and employees sharing meaningful stories that exemplify our “People Helping People” philosophy. We aren’t looking for “high production value” videos; just cleanly recorded videos that tell a great story.

Has your credit union submitted a story yet? We are counting on your participation! For more information or to submit your credit union story, please check out www.advancingcommunity.com or our unique state pages: South Dakota and North Dakota.

As always, if you have any questions or need some assistance submitting a story, I am here to help! Have a great week, stay well, and don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
