Legislative Update with Jay Kruse

Good Morning!

This week in Congress.

Both the House and Senate are in session and approaching a major deadline at the end of this week. However, due to the passing of President George H.W. Bush, the Congressional schedule is very likely to change. Government funding is set to expire on Friday at midnight, meaning Congress is busy attempting to reach another short-term agreement or legislation to get us to the end of the fiscal year 2019. The current belief is that the government will be funded through December 21 to allow lawmakers more time to navigate various contentious issues, including border security. The National Flood Insurance Program is also set to expire on Friday, December 7. We anticipate it will also be extended until December 21, but things continue to be fluid this week.

Earn Double MERP Points with the Member Activation Program.

2019 is just around the corner, but there is still time to sign up for CUNA’s Member Activation Program (MAP), which will earn you DOUBLE CUAD Member Engagement Rewards Program (MERP) points this year! Even if you’re already signed up, you will still earn double points as well this year for participating. It’s time to place another tool in your advocacy toolbox: MAP!

MAP costs nothing to join and gets your members engaged in credit union advocacy. We provide plug-and-play content, you deliver the content to members, and your members discover ways to play a role in the future of their credit union. Also, with the new recently released MAP Community, you can ask questions, get feedback from your peers, and share any great results or resources you created to get the word out to your members and employees.

Even if you have no plans for utilizing MAP to reach out to your membership right now, I highly encourage you to sign up for the program. It’s FREE and you will have access to an abundance of information regarding what others are doing to utilize MAP and harness the power of their membership. And don’t forget, once you sign up, you will earn DOUBLE MERP points!

The first step is to join the MAP Community. The MAP Community is a space for credit union advocacy professionals to connect with peers, ask questions, solve problems, get the latest information and build knowledge. All the latest campaign templates and resources are housed here. I strongly encourage you to sign up today! If you have any questions about MAP be sure to contact me.
